Synopsis

This unit reviews the principles and philosophies underpinning current thinking in health promotion. Effective approaches to health promotion in rural environments are explored, with an emphasis on a social model of health, collaborative practice and community development.

Objectives

On completion of this unit it is intended that students should be able to:

  1. Understand a social model of health;
  2. Analyse and refine understanding of ethical professional responsibilities when undertaking health promotion programs;
  3. Develop effective health promotion methodologies for rural communities;
  4. Increase skills in practical evaluation methodology; and
  5. Demonstrate collaborative practices through constructive involvement in the online discussion group.

Assessment

Self directed learning, using online discussion as framework: based on 5 topic areas (50%)
Five on-line activities, including quizzes (5 x 10%)
