Course description

This course, offered by the Caulfield School of Information Technology, aims to prepare students for careers in information systems and information management. Graduates of the program are expected to play leading professional roles in Australia and other countries. The course attracts students from a wide variety of educational and professional backgrounds. It can be studied in full-time and part-time modes, and a number of units are available by off-campus learning.

Students may also take out this award by exiting the Master of Information Management and Systems, the Master of Information Management and Systems Professional or the Graduate Diploma in Information Management and Systems, after completing 24 points of study.

Entry requirements

The normal entry requirement is a degree that is equivalent to an Australian bachelors degree. Candidates without formal tertiary qualifications should normally enter after successful completion of the Professional Certificate in Information technology or the Executive Certificate in Information Technology, except in exceptional circumstances as approved by the head of school.

Credit for prior studies

Students who have completed a graduate qualification with a recognised specialisation in information systems or information management may be granted credit. A maximum of 12 points of credit is available.

Course structure

Students complete four graduate-level information management and systems units (24 points) selected from the list below (all units 6 points). Students without appropriate background knowledge will be required to satisfactorily complete a selection of the foundation units (9000 level) before proceeding to other graduate units (5000 level). The foundation units have been designed for students with little prior study in information technology. It is highly recommended that students undertake postgraduate orientation activities and workshops coordinated by the Faculty of IT.
