Course description

This course is accredited by CPA Australia (CPAA), the National Institute of Accountants (NIA) and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA). The course enables students who hold a previous qualification that is comparable to an Australian bachelor degree to satisfy the educational requirements of the above professional bodies. The 12 compulsory units enable a graduate to be classified as an ‘Accountant’ in conformity with the requirements of the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO Code: 2211–11). The core curriculum areas include studies in: financial and management accounting; auditing; statistics and business finance; consumer, corporate and taxation law; economics and information systems.

Credit for prior studies

Candidates who commenced and completed an Executive or Graduate Certificate in Accounting awarded by Monash University within the past five years may be eligible for four units of credit (24 points). Candidates who commenced and completed a Graduate Diploma in Accounting awarded by Monash University within the past five years may be eligible for eight units of credit (48 points). Candidates who have completed other graduate level studies considered to be equivalent to one or more compulsory units may be eligible for credit for a maximum of eight credits (48 points). Candidates who can show that their undergraduate studies overlapped the content of a graduate unit may apply for a preclusion. For each preclusion granted another graduate unit must be substituted

(b) Students must complete four 5000-level units (24 points) from any faculty in the university.

It is recommended that students consult with the course director to ensure their elective units form a coherent study program.

Articulation

Students who complete the Master of Professional Accounting with at least a credit average may apply for admission to the Master of Business (Accounting).

Professional recognition

Upon successful completion of the program graduates will have satisfied the educational requirements for admission as an associate member of CPAA, and entry to both the CPA Program of CPAA and the CA Program of ICAA.
