Units indexed by faculty Master of Practising AccountingCourse code: 0790 + Course abbreviation: MPracAcc + Total credit points required: 72 + 3 semesters full-time, 6 semesters part-time Study mode and course locationOn-campus (Caulfield) Course descriptionThis course covers the core curriculum areas for classification as an accountant, and is accredited by CPA Australia (CPAA), the National Institute of Accountants (NIA) and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA). The course comprises 12 compulsory units that enable a graduate to be classified as an ‘Accountant’ in conformity with the requirements of the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO Code: 2211–11). The core curriculum areas include studies in financial and management accounting; auditing; statistics and business finance; consumer, corporate and taxation law; economics and information systems. Credit for prior studiesCandidates who commenced and completed an Executive or Graduate Certificate in Accounting awarded by Monash University within the past five years may be eligible for four units of credit (24 points). Candidates who commenced and completed a Graduate Diploma in Accounting awarded by Monash University within the past five years may be eligible for eight units of credit (48 points). Candidates who have completed other graduate level studies considered to be equivalent to one or more compulsory units may be eligible for credit for a maximum of six credits (36 points). Candidates who can show that their undergraduate studies overlapped the content of a graduate unit may apply for a preclusion. For each preclusion granted another graduate unit must be substituted. ArticulationStudents who complete the Master of Practising Accounting with at least a credit average may apply for admission to the Master of Business (Accounting). Professional recognitionUpon successful completion of the program graduates who posses an Australian bachelor degree or an overseas qualification deemed by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR) as being equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree will have satisfied the educational requirements for: admission as an associate member of both CPAA and NIA; and entry to both the CPA Program of CPAA and the CA Program of ICAA.
