Course description

This course offers specialised studies in banking and finance. This program has been designed to provide students with the conceptual and managerial decision-making skills necessary for effective management in the continuously changing domestic and international financial market environment.

Course structure

Students must complete eight units (48 points) as follows:

(a) completion of two units (12 points) from the following list:

  • AFF9150 Options, futures and risk management
  • AFF9250 Financial management theory
  • AFF9260 Australian capital markets
  • AFF9350 Portfolio management and theory

(b) completion of four units (24 points) from the following list:

  • AFF9020 Introduction to risk principles
  • AFF9130 Financial planning environment
  • AFF9140 Bank lending
  • AFF9160 International banking and finance
  • AFF9180 Financial institutions planning and strategy
  • AFF9770 Risk financing and treasury management
  • AFX9870 International study program in banking and finance
  • BTX9380 Banking law and practice
  • ETF9300 Financial econometrics
  • ETX9520 Quantitative methods for risk analysis
  • MKF9790 Banking and financial services marketing

(c) completion of any two 9000-level units (12 points) offered by any department in the Faculty of Business and Economics.

It is recommended that students consult with the course director to ensure their elective units form a coherent study program.

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance with at least a credit average may apply for admission to the Master of Applied Finance (Stream A), or the Master of Business (Banking and Finance).
