Course description

This course seeks to develop practical skills in social research techniques. It is designed for those with an undergraduate degree in the social sciences who wish to deepen their knowledge of social research techniques and the different kinds of evidence used to investigate contemporary social issues.

Course structure

Students must complete 48 points of units at level 4, comprised of:

SYM4005 Qualitative research strategies
SYM4015 Secondary analysis of official statistics
SYM4025 Survey research
SYM4055 Application of computer techniques

With the permission of the coordinator, one of these units may be replaced with an approved 12-point, level 4 elective from the faculties of Arts, Business and Economics, or Information Technology.

Articulation

Students who complete the course with a grade of credit average or above are eligible to apply for entry into the Master of Applied Social Research.
