Synopsis: The aim of this subject is for students to develop an understanding of how to provide a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service. Clinical pharmacy practice is underpinned by ability in the clinical application of knowledge of pharmacology and therapeutics in selected patient groups. Students should appreciate a patient-centred view of health care delivery and the role of the pharmacist in patient management.
Objectives: An appreciation of the role of the pharmacist in primary health care; Abilities in consideration of patient care issues; Understanding of the principles of drug therapy in particular patient groups, and provision of clinical pharmacy services. An ability to use a patient centred approach to the application of clinical knowledge and skills Understanding of management of some common disease states
Assessment: 2 hour written examination (80%) Case study assignment (20%)
