Synopsis: Chemical structure, bonding and shape. Bioinorganic chemistry. Spectroscopy and analysis. Introduction to organic chemistry. Alkanes, stereochemistry, optical activity. Chemical kinetics. Organic reaction mechanisms.
Objectives: Students will develop: - An understanding of the key concepts in chemical stucture and bonding including functional groups, pharmaceutical spectroscopy, reactions of organic molecules and the basic principles of medicinal chemistry. - Abilities in the areas of techniques associated with medicinal chemistry relevant to formulation science. - An appreciation of the role of molecular shapes and electronic distributions as the basis for drug-receptor interactions.
