Synopsis: This unit provides basic technical skills for the pharmaceutical sales force. It provides participants with adequate skills to interpret, understand and communicate pharmaceutical product information to health professionals.
Objectives: At the end of this unit, participants will be able to: 1. outline the process of discovery and development of a medicinal compound for sale in Australia. 2. distinguish the common medicine dosage forms and routes of administration. 3. describe the absorption, distribution and elimination of drugs in human bodies. 4. understand the drug-receptor concept. 5. list key drug receptors. 6. outline key drug-drug, drug-food interaction principles. 7. identify key side effects of medicines. 8. describe key concepts of economic analyses in medicines: cost benefits analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, opportunity cost. 9.understand key statistical data used in medical literatures. 10. describe key components of published clinical papers. 11. recognise the nature and reasoning behind evidence based practice in health. 12. have a broad appreciation of fundamental principles of evidence based medicine.
Assessment:
