Clayton Second semester 2006 (Day)
Synopsis: Introduction to differential and integral forms of governing equations in tensor notation. Review of compressible and incompressible, inviscid and viscous aerodynamic flows. Analytic derivation of boundary layer equations. Solution methods of the incompressible boundary layer equations - prediction of drag, lift and boundary layer separation on airfoil surfaces. Compressibility effects in boundary layer flow. Flow instability and transition from laminar to turbulent flow. Introduction to boundary layer stability analysis. Introduction to the analysis and quantitative description of turbulent boundary layer flow. Boundary layer flow control on airfoils.
Assessment: Examination (3 hours ): 80% + Projects and laboratory work: 20%.
Contact Hours: 22 lectures,16 hours practice classes and 6 laboratory hours
