Synopsis: This unit covers the internal mechanism of computers and how they are organised and programmed. Topics include machine arithmetic, microprogramming, caches, translation look-aside buffers, RISC machines, and pipelined and parallel organisation.
Assessment: Practical Work and Assignments: 40%; Examination: 60%.
Contact Hours: Three x 1 hr lecture/week, One x 1 hr tutorial/week, One x 3 hr lab/week
