Synopsis: Core problem-solving and analytical skills for computer programming and an introduction to computer systems. Concepts include problem abstraction and solution, and design and analysis of computer algorithms and data structures. Topics include data structures; algorithms; Boolean logic; elementary computer architecture; programming in assembly language.
Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 60%; Compulsory assessed laboratory classes: 20%; Mid-semester tests: 20%
Contact Hours: Three x 1 hr lecture/week, One x 1 hr tutorial/week, One x 3 hr lab session/week
Prerequisites: CSE1301 or CSC1011
Prohibitions: BUS1060 and BUS2120 for BCompSc and BSE students; CSE2121, CSC1030, GCO1812.
