Course description

This double-degree program offers professional education in a range of business and information technology disciplines and provides students with the foundation on which further advanced business and information technology studies can be undertaken.

Course structure

Areas of study

Students must complete a major specialisation in one of the following disciplines taught by the faculty: accounting, electronic business systems, international business, human resource management, management, marketing, or sport management. For details of the units required for major specialisations, refer to the Bachelor of Business and Commerce entry for the Peninsula campus.

Other studies may be drawn from any of the disciplines taught on the Peninsula campus by the Faculty of Business and Economics. These other studies can form a sub-major in one of the following areas: professional accounting, accounting for managers, business law, financial management, international management and psychology in business.

In their Faculty of Information Technology component, students are required to complete a major in net-centric computing.

Course requirements

The degree requirements are:

(a) Students must complete 18 units (108 points) from the Faculty of Business and Economics as follows:

(i) Six compulsory core units (36 points):

(ii) A major specialisation of eight units (48 points) in a discipline or field of study of the faculty with at least 12 points at each of second and third-year levels. The major must come from the approved list of majors.

(iii) At least four non-compulsory units (24 points) must be taken outside the main field of study.

(iv) A maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 points)

(b) Students must complete 18 units (108 points) from the Faculty of Information Technology as follows:

(i) Seven common core units (42 points):

(ii) A major in net-centric computing as follows:

  • FIT1011 Web systems 1
  • FIT2018 Network administration
  • FIT2019 Network standards and specifications
  • FIT2028 Web systems 2
  • FIT2034 Object-oriented design and programming
  • FIT3016 Industrial experience project 1
  • FIT3017 Industrial experience project 2

(iii) Completion of four units (24 points) at third-year level from a schedule approved by the Faculty of Information Technology.

(c) Students must also satisfy the following double-degree regulations:

(i) Completion of 36 units (216 points) over a maximum of 10 years of study.

(ii) A maximum of 15 units (90 points) of first-year-level units.

(iii) A minimum of 10 units (60 points) of third-year-level units.

  • Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia
