Course description

This course is offered by the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine. The course provides professionals currently in, or seeking to be in, middle and senior health care management positions who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in the management of health services. It caters for the special needs of medical and general hospital administrators, clinical doctors, quality assurance managers, team leaders, senior nursing administrators, unit managers and a range of general task coordinators within the health care system. Students are required to complete compulsory block requirements each semester.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline and relevant professional experience. The department will individually assess applications from students without a three-year degree. In such instances, the department may require completion of the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Health Services Management before enrolling in the masters program.

Course structure

This program is comprised of seven core units and two elective options, each comprised of four units.

  • MPH2069 Health systems policy
  • MPH2072 Reform and development of health services

  • MPH1040 Introductory epidemiology
  • MPH1041 Introductory biostatistics
  • Two electives (selected from DEPM postgraduate units)
Option two
  • ECX9720 Introduction to epidemiology and biostatistics
  • Three electives (selected from DEPM postgraduate units)

Assessment

Assessment includes web-based tasks, written assignments, examinations, and individual and group presentations.
