Units indexed by faculty Master of Multimedia ComputingCourse code: 2404 + Course abbreviation: MMC + Total credit points required: 72 + 1.5 years full-time (although most students take the course part-time over 2 or 3 years) Study mode and course locationOn-campus (Caulfield) Course descriptionThe course allows information technology professionals to upgrade their knowledge and expertise in the new field of multimedia and internet computing. The course is designed for professionals with a technical focus who wish to learn more about multimedia and internet computing. Graduates will be able to develop state-of-the-art presentations and will have an understanding of the underlying technology supporting multimedia and internet computing and its theoretical underpinning. In particular, graduates will be able to identify applications for which multimedia products and systems are suited, apply commonly used tools and techniques to develop a multimedia product and participate in its design and evaluation. They will have developed attitudes that enable them to take on the professional responsibilities of a multimedia system developer and to participate effectively as members of a multimedia system development team. Entry requirementsStudents should have completed one of the following: (a) degree that is equivalent to an Australian bachelors degree in computing, computer science or computing engineering. Normally such degrees will be those that have professional IT recognition, for example by the ACS, BCS or other professional body. A credit average in final-year computing units is normally required, but extensive relevant professional experience in a technically demanding role will be taken into account when assessing applications for admission; (b) the Graduate Diploma in Computing or an equivalent to an Australian graduate diploma; (c) an equivalent Australian honours degree in computing or computer science with a grade of HII or better. Honours graduates will be eligible for 24 points of credit at the fourth-year level and will be able to qualify for the Master of Multimedia Computing by completing 48 points of approved units. Students who have completed a recognised honours degree or postgraduate diploma in information technology or computer science will be awarded 24 points of credit and will be required to complete 48 points of approved units. Course structureThe course consists of 72 points, designed to be taken over three semesters full-time. Core unitsStudents must complete six 6-point units:

With course leader approval, up to 12 points of other masters-level (fourth or fifth-year) units can be taken in place of units offered in the Faculty of Information Technology or any other faculty. Students may take up to two 9000-level units chosen from those offered by the Faculty of Information Technology with the explicit approval of the Master of Multimedia Computing coordinator. Exit pointsStudents may elect to leave the program after completing 24 points and receive a Postgraduate Certificate in Multimedia Computing. In order to do so, they must have completed the core units CSE5900, CSE5910, CSE5930 and CSE5940 listed above. Students may choose to leave the program after completing 48 points and receive a Postgraduate Diploma in Multimedia Computing. In order to do so, they must have completed the core units listed above and 18 points of electives from the above list.
