Tapestry practice and theory 2B ( 6 points, SCA Band 1, 0.125 EFTSL)

Synopsis: This unit gives students the opportunity to further develop the ideas concepts, materials and processes begun in Tapestry 2A units. Students will extend the establishment of an individual and self directed practice within the broad parameters of the Tapestry discipline. Methods and materials specific to the Tapestry discipline will be demonstrated and practiced. Students will be encouraged to develop further appropriate links between these methods and other means of creative self-expression. Set projects will require students to develop technical skills hand in hand with their understanding of concepts of current relevance.

Objectives: On successful completion of this unit, students will: 1. have produced a high quantity of potential ideas and projects; 2 have begun to be aware of the relationships between tapestry and other media; 3. have developed the ability to make individual decisions and choices; 4. have improved skills in a number of drawing methods and techniques; 5. understand and apply the principles of occupational health and safety practices in the studio

Assessment: Folio of studio work: 100%, of which at least 20% will be assessed before mid-semester.

Contact Hours: 12 hours per week, including six hours of taught studio and six hours of personal study and studio practice
