Synopsis: This unit traces the development of Spanish from so-called vulgar Latin, the Latin most commonly spoken by everyday people in the Roman Empire. It also follows the development of modern-day Spanish with its various dialectical evolutions both in peninsular Spanish and in the Spanish spoken in the Americas.
Assessment: Tests: 40% + Assignment (500 words): 10% + Participation: 10% + Examination: 40%
Contact Hours: 3 hours (1 x 3 hour seminar) per week
Prerequisites: SPN1070 or SPN1020 plus permission
