Synopsis: SPN1020 develops language skills acquired in SPN1010 with particularly emphasis on oral and written practices. In addition, students are introduced to key aspects of Hispanic cultures and societies.
Objectives: On completion of this unit, students will be able to: 1. Converse in Spanish for 15-20 minutes about past, present and future activities; 2. Use the following tenses: the present habitual, the present progressive, the present perfect, preterite and imperfect, and the informal and formal future; 3. Write compositions of up to 300 words in Spanish, with the help of a Spanish-English dictionary and a reference grammar; 4. Engage in conversations and discussions in Spanish, about themselves, their family and friends, Australia and the world at large ; 5. Read and comprehend newspaper articles and narrative an descriptive literary of up to 1000 words texts in Spanish; 6. Demonstrate an understanding of key aspects of Hispanic cultures and societies
Assessment: 5 weekly exercises (50 words each, 250 words): 5% + 2 compositions (250 words each, 500 words): 10% + 2 written tests (500 words each, 1000 words): 20% + Culture Exam (1200 words): 25% + Oral exam: 10% Final language exam (1500 words): 30% Additional comment: All assessment with the exception of the cultural exam will be in Spanish
Contact Hours: 4 hours (2 x 1 hour lectures and 2 x 1 hour tutorials) per week
