Offered:
Not offered in 2005.
Synopsis: This unit compares different beliefs about what constitutes 'good organisation' and 'good management', and looks in particular at how the notions of rationality and legitimacy (or fairness) apply to each. The aim is to inform students on the substance of debate about organisation and management, including debate about how economic pressures for continual rationalisation and re-structuring can best be balanced against those that demand greater social responsibility and justice. This is not a new debate, but developments such as privatisation and globalisation have given it added relevance.
