Clayton First semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: This unit deals with the operation, performance and design of spark ignition and gas turbine aircraft engines. Initially the engines will be treated as simple thermodynamic systems. A more detailed investigation of engine components will follow. Component integration for each engine will be examined through investigations into performance and operation including design and off-design conditions for the gas turbine engine. Students will be required to undertake a significant individual project dealing with aspects of each engine.
Assessment: Examination (3 hours ): 70% + Projects and laboratory work: 30%
Contact Hours: 22 lectures, 14 practice class hours and 6 laboratory hours
