Exhibition Design 2 ( 6 points, SCA Band 2, 0.125 EFTSL)

Synopsis: This unit explores the range of exhibtion and related design applications and types. Students are intially introduced to the concepts of interior space and spatial ambience which are then merged with the visual communications aspects of exhibitions. Topics covered include current and recent thinking about exhibitions and related activities, the types of construction and presentation used in exhibtion design, lighting, colour, sound, projection, and other media. Topics discussed include the implementation process, regulations and project and budget management. Students undertake design project work to create simple exhibition concepts and structures.

Objectives: On successful completion of this unit, students will: 1. have the necessary technical competence to undertake design for exhibition purposes; 2. be able to identify the key communication requirements for a potential exhibition; 3. be capable of documenting for construction using architectural drafting conventions; 4. have advanced design interpretation and presentation skills relevant to exhibition design; 5. be familiar with relevant costing and estimating procedures associated with the production of exhibitions; 6. be aware of construction safety codes, regulations and industry requirements; 7. observe and employ occupational health and safety principles and rule appropriate to studio practice.

Assessment: Class assignments: 60%. A single key assignment: 40%
