Synopsis: Follows on from GSE3701. Practical application of AI techniques in the engineering environment. Expert systems, neural networks (including fuzzy logic driven neural networks) and genetic algorithms. Application of techniques to machine control, condition monitoring, environmental sensing and interaction, object classification and recognition, and 'good' solution finding for difficult engineering problems. Use of purpose written software, and commercial software libraries, to explore the application of each of the AI areas to appropriate engineering applications.
Assessment: Examination: 40% + Computer-based assignments: 30% + Individual student project: 30%
