Synopsis: Nature of projects: IT projects, other projects; Defining the project; Project phases: planning, scheduling, controlling projects; Risk identification and analysis; Project cost estimation techniques ; Time analysis and scheduling; Resource allocation, scheduling, constraining and levelling; Monitoring quality of projects; Applications with a good emphasis on IT related projects; Review of commercially available software for project management; Evaluating project management software.
Assessment: 2 Assignments: 40% + Examination (2 hours): 60%
Prerequisites: Bachelor of Computing students: GCO2813 or GCO2802. Bachelor of IT students: GCO1813, GCO1810 or GCO1811 and completion of 24 points of level 2 study. Business students: GCO2851 and GCO2852 or equivalent or GCO9806. Knowledge of using Microsoft Excel is essential.
