Synopsis: The unit covers the nature of information and its use in decision making; the processes of systems development and analysis of information systems primarily using object-oriented tools; some guidelines for good systems development. The detailed syllabus includes systems development methodologies and lifecycle, illustrated with case studies: planning and problem definition; evaluation and feasibility study; abstraction; quality and testing; project management. Analysis tools: information gathering, interview and questionnaire; organisation charts; use cases, class diagrams, documentation standards; data dictionary; prototyping; UML tools.
Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 60% + Other assessment modes: 40%
