Peninsula Second semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: This unit will examine the provision of quality childcare services for children under 3 years of age, including relationships, programming and environments. The importance of partnerships with parents will be stressed. Students will undertake a placement as well as visits in an under 3 program.
Objectives: The broad aims of this unit are for students to demonstrate an ability to plan an appropriate program for children under three years of age; demonstrate an appreciation of the different factors that are required for quality care/education for infants and toddlers in childcare services; identify and discuss the key issues that have been raised in relation to infant and toddler care and education programs; critically examine the literature on infant and toddler childcare and be able to relate the findings to their own experiences with infant and toddler programs.
Assessment: PGO will be awarded in this unit. Students must receive a satisfactory grade in both the written tutorial requirements and practicum placement + Written Assignment: 2400 words + Tutorial tasks: 1600 words + Hurdle: 80% attendance at lectures/tutorials
