Synopsis: Amplifier fundamentals: small-signal concept. Single stage BJT and FET amplifiers: CE (CS), CB (CG), CC (CD) and LTP stages, mid-band gain, low and high frequency response. Multi-stage amplifiers, dc amplifiers: origins of offset and drift. Current mirrors. Op amps: internal structure, offset and drift, bandwidth and slew rate; linear applications: differential, transconductance, instrumentation amplifiers; second-order active filters. Noise in amplifiers. Power amplifiers. Feedback amplifiers: transfer functions, sensitivity, poles and zeros. RC oscillators. Linear voltage regulators. Use of CAD tools.
Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 70% + Laboratory work and assignments: 30%
