Synopsis: Introduction to the principles and practices of total quality management and relevant international standards. Statistical methodology for process capability, process control, acceptance sampling and reliability design. Reliability definitions, failure probability density and hazard functions. Weibull and Hastings distributions. Capital equipment lifecycle costing and replacement planning. Applications of personal computer software in quality management, reliability and replacement.
Assessment: Class tests and assignments: 30% + Examination (2 hours): 70% + Students must pass the examination in order to pass the unit
Contact Hours: One 2-hour lecture and one 1-hour tutorial per week
Prerequisites: BUS9520 or equivalent and BUS9530 or equivalent
Prohibitions: BUS4510
