Introductory intelligent techniques for business modelling ( 6 points, SCA Band 2, 0.125 EFTSL)

Synopsis: Intelligent techniques provide powerful and effective tools for problem solving and are being successfully applied in a variety of business modelling tasks. This unit introduces several main branches of intelligent techniques used for business modelling and builds the skills necessary to develop models for solving practical business problems using relevant software. The techniques considered include neurocomputing, evolutionary computing, fuzzy techniques, expert systems, neurofuzzy computing, evolutionary neurocomputing, intelligent and conventional technique-hybridised computing. The focus will be on applications.

Assessment: Class test: 10% + Assignment: 30% + Examination: 60% + Students must pass the examination in order to pass the unit.

Contact Hours: One 2-hour lecture and one 1-hour laboratory per week

Prerequisites: Completion of 24 points of level 2 information technology and/or finance related units
