On-campus (Peninsula)
This
course provides a general introduction to professional health sciences for
students interested in pursuing careers in disciplines such as physiotherapy,
occupational therapy and social work.
The course will encompass four themes:
- Personal and professional development and communication skills
- Biomedical sciences
- Social sciences
- Population health and health promotion
The course is being offered
in three streams (physiotherapy, occupational therapy and health
sciences/social work) that differ in their relative emphasis on biomedical and
social sciences.
Students
enrolled in the physiotherapy or occupational therapy stream are required to
complete the following units.
- BMS1021 Cells, tissues and organisms*
- HSC1011 Professionalism in the health sciences
- PSY1011 Psychology 1A
- BMS2011 Structure of the human body*
- HSC1032 Health services and health promotion in the Australian context
- HSC1042 Multicultural issues in health sciences
- BMS1052 Human neurobiology*
- BMS1031 Medical biophysics*
Students
enrolled in the health sciences/social work stream are required to complete the
following units.

- HSC1021 Introduction to research methods in health sciences
- HSC1032 Health services and health promotion in the Australian context
