The
course aims to prepare graduates for careers in the management of information
and the development of information systems. It provides students with the
skills needed to solve information problems and take advantage of
information-related opportunities in business, government and the community.
The core units introduce students to the nature of information flows in
organisations and society, the nature of computer-based information systems and
products, and systems analysis and design methodologies.
In all years, students undertake studio-based units, in which they will gain
practical experience in the tools and processes required for the development
and implementation of information products, services and systems and the basic
business skills required by information practitioners. In addition, coverage of
project management, technical and professional communication and social
implications in the studio units provide students with the knowledge and skills
needed for leadership roles in the information technology field. The studio
aspect of the BIS is a strong distinguishing feature of the degree.
Applicants will be required to have successfully completed the VCE (or equivalent) with a minimum study score of 25 in English (any) in units 3 and 4.
Credit transfer and admission with advanced standing will be based on agreements or will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
