Graduate Certificate in Wound Care

Course code: 2982 ¸ Course abbreviation: GradCertWoundCare ¸ 1 year part-time ¸ Off-campus (Parkville)

This course is designed to provide the knowledge and skills to enable health professionals and veterinary surgeons to effectively manage acute and chronic wounds. The course comprises five core units and three electives. On completion of the graduate certificate, students can progress to the Graduate Diploma in Wound Care and the Master of Wound Care, without exiting the program.

Entry requirements

An undergraduate degree in an appropriate health discipline and at least two years clinical relevant experience.

Course structure

Students are required to complete five core units and three elective units:

• VCW1102 Wound assessment
• VCW1103 Wound dressings
• VCW1104 Management of acute wounds
• VCW1105 Management of chronic wounds

Elective units

• VCW1106 Systemic medication and wound healing
• VCW1108 Nutrition and wound healing
• VCW1109 Dermatology
• VCW1111 Alternative therapies
• VCW1112 Scar management
• VCW1114 Reconstructive surgery
• VCW1116 The diabetic foot

Up to two units can be taken as non-award units, with credit available towards future award courses.
All units are delivered by flexible learning, with a comprehensive set of study materials provided to each student. Students must have personal computer access to a reasonable internet connection with Netscape or MS Explorer browser, MS Office software and a CD-ROM drive.
