Course description

This course is designed for professionals working in a range of human service and corporate sector organisations who wish to gain a broad organisational qualification in mentoring and coaching. This program is offered as part of the suite of work, learning and leadership programs offered by the Faculty of Education.

Entry requirememts

To be eligible for admission, applicants must hold either:

• an approved three-year bachelors degree in a relevant field with a credit average in the final year, or
• an approved three-year bachelors degree (or equivalent) and a fourth year of study, or
• an approved four-year bachelors degree, or
• qualifications or experience considered by the faculty board to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for, the above awards.

Negotiations for formal articulation arrangements may include provision for the admission of enrolment cohorts with `equivalent' qualifications or experience. Students admitted under this provision are likely to possess a number of workplace-based training qualifications.

Course outline

Students are required to successfully complete 48 credit points comprising four 12-point units (consisting of two core and two elective units):

Core units

• EDF6851 Mentoring and coaching 1
• EDF6852 Mentoring and coaching 2

Elective units

Two coursework elective units - taken from an area of study such as counselling, organisational leadership, work and learning that would extend mentoring and coaching capabilities in a particular field.
Approved units will include:

• EDF6531 Counselling for the professions (counselling unit)
• EDF6801 Educating and learning in the workplace (work and learning unit)
• EDF6802 Adult education and training: policies and practices (work and learning unit)
• EDF6810 Education, work organisation and workplace change (work and learning unit)
• EDF6821 Policy and governance (organisational leadership unit)
• EDF6822 Leadership and organisation (organisational leadership unit)
• EDF6823 Management and change (organisational leadership unit)
• EDF6828 Resource management (organisational Leadership unit)
• or any other postgraduate unit for electives, subject to approval by the course coordinator

Exit point

Students may choose to exit the course with a Postgraduate Certificate in Mentoring and Coaching, provided they have met all the requirements for the degree.
