Synopsis: Change and the management of organisational change. Topics include: theorising organisations; power, authority and capacity; the social context of organisations; ways of seeing and knowing organisations; team leadership; groupthink; emotions in the workplace and communities of practice; learning and problem-solving knowledge management; competency; change and capability; the reform process; professional community and change
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should have acquired a detailed knowledge and understanding of the major trends in theories of organisations; an understanding and critical appreciation of new organisational forms and organisational processes; skills in devising a range of strategies and approaches to change management, team leadership and the enhancement of team-based and organisation-wide learning; knowledge and skills required to formulate their own understandings of management and change in the light of their own organisational practices.
Assessment: 2 Essays (2 x 4000 words): 50% each - Totalling 100%
