Course description

This course is designed to provide teachers with an understanding of a range of issues and of research as it relates to music education.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission to the course, applicants must hold either:

• an approved three-year bachelors degree in a relevant field with a credit average in the final year, or
• an approved three-year bachelors degree (or equivalent) and a fourth year of study, or
• an approved four-year bachelors degree, or
• qualifications or experience considered by the faculty board to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for, the above awards.

Course outline

The course consists of 48 credit points of study. Students will complete four 12-point units (at least two specialist elective units and one or two general elective units):

Specialist elective units

At least two units chosen from:

• EDF6322 Teaching music: policy and practice, and/or
• EDF6323 Learning music: current research issues, and/or
• EDF6324 European perspectives on music education

General elective units

• Any one or two postgraduate units

Candidates who successfully complete the Postgraduate Diploma of Education (Music Education) may complete a masters degree by undertaking up to a further two units (including a research core unit).
