Areas of research specialisation include media studies, history and theory of mass media, visual culture; applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, second language acquisition, German for special purposes, discourse and text analysis; romanticism, feminine theory, drama and theatre studies, literature and the environment; contemporary German literature, sociology of literature, aesthetics, literary theory, comparative literature, poetics, rhetoric and in cultural studies; travel literature, literature of the fantastique.
German studies offers PhD and masters by research degrees. Areas of research specialisation include German linguistics and German literature, culture and medial studies.
