Areas of research specialisation include sociolinguistics in Spanish, pragmatics, discourse analysis, culture and civilisation of the Hispanic world, 19th and 20th-century Spanish American literature and culture, 19th and 20th-century Spanish literature, postmodernism, Latin American popular culture, Hispanic cinema and media and political discourses.
