Course code 3412 + Off-campus (Victoria Institute of Forensic Medicine, Southbank) + Full-fee-paying course: $TBC (Australian residents); $22,500 (international students)
The broad aims of the course are to assist in the establishment of academic standards in clinical forensic medical practice, to produce graduates who have a sound knowledge of medico-legal principles, and to develop practitioners' skills in providing clinical forensic services in the community. This course articulates from the Graduate Diploma in Forensic Medicine.
Applicants must have a medical degree or equivalent and have at least three years experience in clinical medicine and be currently working in a field of forensic medicine or a related field.
Advanced standing may be granted for credits received in the Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate in Forensic Medicine.
The course is offered on a part-time basis over three or four years by off-campus learning. It may be taken in one of two pathways. In both streams, students are required to complete a unit of statistics methodologies. Students should note that they need to discuss their proposal to enter the masters program with the course coordinator before enrolling in the course.
Students undertaking the minor thesis are required to prepare a research proposal at an early stage of their minor thesis enrolment and have this approved by their thesis supervisor. The area of research must cover a topic directly related to forensic medicine.
Students must complete at least 72 points of study comprised entirely of course work units. Up to eight credit points of study may be taken as a short project.
Assessment will vary but will include coursework participation, formal assignments, casebooks and minor thesis.
