Master of Family Medicine

Course code: 0099 + Off-campus (Department of General Practice, East Bentleigh) + Full-fee-paying course: $TBC (Australian residents); $29,000 (international students)

The aims of this 96-credit-point course are similar to the Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine, with the additional objectives of providing candidates with research and teaching skills to equip them for potential part-time or full-time careers in academic general practice.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be registered medical or general practitioners with a minimum of two years of postgraduate experience and preferably in active general practice. Special consideration will be given to suitably qualified overseas graduates residing in their own country. It is recommended that students should have completed the Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine award prior to proceeding onto this course. Candidates are required to have achieved a credit grade or higher for MFM2006 (Introduction to research methods).

Advanced standing for previous studies

Students who have completed the Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine within seven years of applying for the Master of Family Medicine course will be granted exemption for 48 credit points
(50 per cent).

A number of units will require students to visit the department for a weekend workshop.

Assessment will be by coursework participation, formal assignments, projects and minor thesis, and some weekend workshops.
