Course code: 3422 + Off-campus (Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Central and Eastern Clinical School, Alfred Hospital) + Full-fee-paying course: $TBC (Australian residents) (not available to international students)
The course, offered part-time over three years, provides a sound understanding of the theory and application of the major areas of biostatistics relevant to professional practice. It also provides the technical skills graduates require to commence professional careers as biostatisticians and/or to progress to further postgraduate research studies.
Applicants must have a bachelors degree in science, psychology,
medicine, pharmacy, nursing or appropriate discipline. In addition, one year's
work experience in a health-related area or an honours degree in mathematics or
statistics is required. MPH2041 (Introductory biostatistics) or equivalent is a
prerequisite.
Note that students are encouraged to complete the Graduate Certificate or
Graduate Diploma in Biostatistics prior to enrolment into the masters degree.
This course is comprised of 72 credit points and consists of nine core units including work placement, plus two elective units and one on-campus unit (= 10 off-campus learning units).
* Note: MPH2040 is not available for study in off-campus learning mode. This unit may be studied on - campus or an equivalent unit studied elsewhere as a cross-institutional unit.
Assessment consists of written assignments, practical exercises, examinations, portfolio and final reports.
