Associate Degree in Business and Commerce

The course provides a tertiary education for people interested in fast-track career progression in business. It is designed to provide either a detailed knowledge in a single field of business and commerce or broad fundamental knowledge of general principles and applications of business and commerce in two chosen fields of study.
The Associate Degree in Business and Commerce fully articulates into the Bachelor of Business and Commerce program.

Advanced standing for previous studies

For students who have completed an award for which the faculty would normally consider giving advanced standing up to eight units (48 credit points) when admitted to the Bachelor of Business and Commerce, up to six units (36 credit points) of advanced standing will be given for the associate degree. Any remaining advanced standing that would normally be granted is given on transfer to the Bachelor of Business and Commerce subject to the number of specific and elective credits being consistent with the rules of the Bachelor of Business and Commerce degree program.

Majors and other studies in the associate degree

Students must complete a major or two sub-majors in one of the following disciplines offered by the faculty via the Gippsland campus: accounting (part-time only), business law (off-campus learning only), economics, e-business (off-campus learning only), international business (off-campus learning only), human resource management, management and marketing.

Course structure

The degree requirements are:
(a) Completion of four compulsory units (24 credit points) from:

(b) Completion of one of the following two options:
(i) Completion of a major of at least eight units (48 credit points) in a discipline from the faculty with at least two units (12 credit points) at each of second and third-year level. All units taken as part of the major are limited to units taught by departments of the faculty on the campus delivering this program.
or
(ii) Completion of two sub-majors of at least four units each (24 credit points) in disciplines from the faculty. All units taken as part of the sub-majors are limited to units taught by departments of the faculty on the campus delivering this program.
(c) A total of 16 units (96 credit points) over a maximum of 10 years of study.
(d) A maximum of eight first-year level units (48 credit points).

(e) An option to include a maximum of four units (24 credit points) in disciplines taught by other faculties.
