Insights Into Practice (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On successful completion of this unit students will have developed: 1) An understanding of the main theories and significant practice issues and dilemmas in one major area of social welfare practice; 2) An awareness of the centrality of values, their own, and those of the clients and workers and the way in which these can colour perceptions of practice issues; 3) Skills in critical analysis and research methods in a specific practice context.

Assessment: Literature review (2000 words): 50% + Integrative assignment (2500 words): 50%

Contact Hours: 2 hour seminar per week

Prerequisites: SCW2303 and either SCW2304 or SCW2310

Prohibitions: GSC3303
