Synopsis:

Objectives: At the completion of the unit the students will be expected to: 1. Evaluate and utilise appropriate philosophical foundations of research; 2. Distinguish and critique quantitative and qualitative methodologies; 3. Develop and utilise research skills in the following areas:- a) advanced online searching b) documentation management c) data collection methods and analysis; 4. Critically evaluate research studies from the literature and produce a written review of these studies.

Assessment: Oral seminar paper on a research philosophy 10%, Data analysis exercise 15%, 1500 word literature review 25%, 3500 essay/critique on research methodologies 50%
