Synopsis:
Objectives: On completion of this unit, it is expected that the student will be able to: 1. apply sociological insight to discuss the contemporary realities of nursing work; 2. appreciate that health care organisations function within socio-political and economic constraints; 3. discuss the role of organisational structures in the workplace and their relationship to the nursing career structure and career planning; 4. evaluate the contribution of leadership, management and teamwork to providing quality nursing care; 5. analyse a range of problem solving and time management strategies that enhance organisation of clinical workload; 6. demonstrate a variety of effective communication techniques relevant to nursing and working effectively with other health professionals; and 7. describe effective coping strategies that promote the nurse's ability to manage challenging and critical incidents.
Assessment: Examination: 50% + Assignments (2): 50%
