Synopsis:
Objectives: By the end of this unit students should have acquired an understanding of the nexus between practical teaching and theory in this study; the practical skills to plan individual lessons and units; the skills to plan trips from within a school setting; strategies for classroom teaching; an insight into managing the resourcing, staffing and implementation of the subject within a school setting; knowledge of the philosophy and historical development of Outdoor Education; a working knowledge of the VCE Outdoor and Environmental Education study design, the VET Certificate ll in Sport and Recreation, and the Curriculum and Standards Framework ll; an appreciation of the curriculum issues unique to Outdoor Education; and a personal teaching philosophy towards Outdoor Education.
Assessment: Report (1000 words): 20%, minor project (1000 words), 30%, essay (2000 words): 50%, and satisfactory completion of practicum
