Method and Practice of Teaching Outdoor Education A (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: By the end of this unit students should have acquired an understanding of the nexus between practical teaching and theory in this study; the practical skills to plan individual lessons and units; the skills to plan trips from within a school setting; strategies for classroom teaching; an insight into managing the resourcing, staffing and implementation of the subject within a school setting; knowledge of the philosophy and historical development of Outdoor Education; a working knowledge of the VCE Outdoor and Environmental Education study design, the VET Certificate ll in Sport and Recreation, and the Curriculum and Standards Framework ll; an appreciation of the curriculum issues unique to Outdoor Education; a personal teaching philosophy towards Outdoor Education; and commenced the development teaching Outdoor Education (Internship students).

Assessment: Portfolio (2000 words): 50%, Program profile (2000 words) 50%.

Off-campus attendance requirements: + Note: Clayton students undertake unit by off-campus mode only (Gippsland)

Prerequisites: the equivalent of one year full-time (48 pts) at tertiary level in approved outdoor recreation/education studies
