Method and Practice of Teaching Drama B (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should have acquired an understanding of the place of drama in the secondary curriculum; a detailed knowledge of key curriculum documents, including the curriculum and standards framework (arts) document and the relevant VCE study designs; the ability to develop a relevant and meaningful drama program for secondary students at all levels; the ability to apply their knowledge of dramatic form and meaning to classroom settings; the capacity to cater for the needs of students in mixed-ability classrooms; a recognition of the value of kinaesthetic learning for students at all year levels.

Assessment: Major assignment (1500 words): 40% + Workshop for Monash Drama Festival: 30% + Attendance at one performance and written analysis: 30% + Teaching practice also forms a major part of the assessment of this unit and students must complete at least 45 days teaching practice (50 for double degree students) and gain a rating of satisfactory for the teaching practice.
