Early Childhood Literacy (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the complex link between a child's life experiences, individual growth, family background and the development of literacy; ability to analyse and evaluate young children's literature in relation to its appropriateness for particular literacy teaching/learning processes; understanding of reading and writing processes for young children; appreciation of the importance of supporting parents as the first teachers of their children as literacy learners; awareness of how technology can be used to support and enhance young children's literacy development; ability to plan appropriate literacy teaching, monitoring, recording and evaluation strategies for young literacy learners.

Assessment: Assignment (2400 words): 60% + Written tasks (1600 words): 40%
