Clinical dietetics II: Lifespan related diseases (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: At completion of the course students will be able to: 1. Relate the nutritional management of the following age related diseases to the medical aspects of these conditions: - aged care, including Osteoporosis, Polypharmacy, Dementia and Disability - common childhood diseases such as Iron deficiency anaemia and constipation - common illnesses seen during infancy such as prematurity, failure to thrive, colic and gastro-oesophageal reflux - specific issues related to pregnancy such as gestational diabetes, foetal alcohol syndrome and severe hyperemesis - adolescence, including eating disorders - alcohol abuse in adults - Diverticular disease in adults and older persons 2. Demonstrate skills in planning and prioritising nutritional management and monitoring of the conditions listed

Assessment: Examination: 40% + Tutorial participation and case studies: 30% + Presentation: 30%

Contact Hours: 6 hours per week contact

Prerequisites: Completion of BND3021 and BND3041 in Year 3, semester 1 Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics.
