Practical dietetic skills (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: At the completion of the course students will have an understanding of 1. The use of a wide range of dietetic assessment tools with consideration of the limitations of each tool 2. Anthropometry and its use in nutritional assessment. This includes varied techniques for the determination of body composition 3. Methods for assessing food intake data 4. The analysis of food intake data in relation to nutritional standards 5. The interpretation of biochemical data relevant to nutritional care 6. Medical terminology and the interpretation of medical records 7. The relevance of RDIs 8. Food diversity and food composition 9. Vitamin and mineral supplementation 10. Skills required for effective communication and documentation

Assessment: Examination: 40% + Participation in tutorial classes and reports: 20% + Practical exam (OSCE) 40%

Contact Hours: 6 hours (lectures, tutuorial and clinical observatories)

Prerequisites: Completion of Year 2 Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics
