Bachelor of Social Work
Course abbreviation: BSocWk + Course code: 0004 +
Coordinator: Associate Professor Chris Goddard
The BSW is a `two-by-two' course. All social work graduates must
complete a total of four full years of tertiary studies to be eligible to join
the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). The Monash course accepts
students with a minimum of two completed years of a university degree, and adds
two years of study (full-time or the equivalent part-time) focusing on core
social work studies.
Applicants must also have undertaken university studies of at
least one year in each of the following:
- the individual (in units such as psychology, behavioural studies,
personality)
- society (in units such as sociology, anthropology, politics, economics,
history, philosophy and including a unit in Australian Indigenous
studies).
These prerequisites are prescribed by the AASW. Potential
applicants are encouraged to consult with the department to ensure their
planned studies meet these requirements.
The BSW is offered part-time and full-time, both on-campus and
by off-campus learning.
Students are required to undergo police checks prior to
undertaking both field placements (practicum).
